In Plain Sight
Because of the impact of COVID-19, more people are working from home more often. But people who work from home tend to be significantly influenced by their living environment, and not always in a positive way. Some people are less productive because of this, so they take up non-work time, and work materials take up their living space. Having a suitable workspace at home might help people focus on work, but, more importantly, may help them focus on their home life.
The target audience is people who work from home, or do mixed work, and the users all live in small apartments in big cities, so they tend to have space limitation.
According to survey research, the problem usersb face is that they cannot switch between their living environment and their working environment, and the living environment affects their productivity, and their work space affects normal life.
The design for this project is a "temporary" device that creates a workspace when needed. This space is not only physical, but also a "ritual". When the device is opened, it allows the user to enter work mode, and when the device is put away, it is life mode.
Psychological research has shown that changes in the environment allowusers to enter the work environment faster and thus be more productive. The habit of using screens to help users transition from living space to work space allows users tomaximize their productivity.
The project creates a temporary workspace for people who work from home. In daily life, this screen is a decoration in the home, such as wallpaper or soundproof material decoration. Folding this screen fixed to the wall creates a workspace when working from home.
